Moscato d'Asti

The Moscato d'Asti Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin (DOCG) is an Italian designation from the Piedmont region, recognized since November 14, 1977. This typical Piedmontese wine was already being produced in these two areas in 1200. Only white wines harvested within the production area defined by the decree are entitled to the DOCG designation. The authorized Moscato d'Asti vineyards are located in the provinces of Cuneo, Alessandria, and Asti.

The area of white Muscat vineyards producing Moscato d'Asti wine is approximately 10,000 hectares, shared among more than 6,800 winegrowers. The production area for Moscato d'Asti wines is located on the slopes of the hills to the right of the Tanaro River in Monferrato and Langhe. The minimum total alcohol content by volume is 11%, of which 4.5% to 6.5% is alcohol contained in the wine. The wine therefore still contains sugar. Moscato d'Asti white wines are the basis for Asti spumante sparkling wine. They have a more or less intense straw yellow color and give off characteristic muscat aromas that are pronounced and delicate. In the Moscato d'Asti appellation, the quality of the wines produced by the Scagliola brothers is particularly noteworthy.
