The origins of this vineyard lie in the presence of numerous abbeys in the region. The occupation of the Château de Gien by the Comte de Gien and the future King Charles VII, contributed significantly to the development of vineyards. Coteaux du Giennois is a wine produced from Gien to Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire. This vineyard obtained its PDO rather late, in 1998. To claim the appellation, white wines must be made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Red and rosé wines are made from a blend of Gamay and Pinot Noir grapes.

"A lovely white vintage is on the horizon in 2022, producing savory sauvignons with a certain richness, and finely exotic, like Champ Gibault, delicious now and within three to four years." (RVF 2024).
