La Rioja (Argentina)

At over 1,100 meters above sea level, the vineyards of Argentina's La Riojaprovince cover around 8,000 hectares and produce grapes with high sugar levels and low acidity. One of the main varieties grown here is Torrontès, an aromatic white grape that is a distant cousin of Muscat.

La Rioja accounts for around 3.5% of Argentina's vineyards, far behind the regions of San Juan and Mendoza.

This area enjoys high levels of sunlight and significant daily temperature variations. Surrounded by mountain ranges, La Rioja is subject to long periods of drought. As a result, drip irrigation is the predominant method used in the region to regulate water supply and prevent excessive water stress.
