"This is a high-contrast Malbec, rich and energetic with crushed berries, as well as peaches and orange zest. Full body and supple tannins, but still fresh and lively. A little Semillon in these plots. Drink now or cellar. (James Suckling 2020)

Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

I've had two very good vintages to compare Malbec Argentino, of which the 2018 Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino feels a little riper than the 2019. There's a bit more Angelica in this blend, as it blends grapes from different parts of Mendoza that ferment with long macerations, around 30% whole bunches and aged in 500-liter oak barrels. Despite all this, it has contained ripeness, medium to full body with moderate alcohol and good freshness. It's a little more opulent than the Gualtallary wines, a little more powerful. 24,000 bottles produced. Bottled in November 2019.
