Wine Spectator

"Merlot, which largely dominates these clay-limestone soils, reigns almost unchallenged in this wine, escorted by the two Cabernets. The color is intense: the nose, with its mix of black fruit and roasted coffee notes left over from a short period of ageing in wood, announces a pleasant palate, which is confirmed by the attack. The tannins give this 2011 a good structure, but it needs two or three years of cellaring to mellow". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2014)

About the wine:

Delicate aromas of red fruit, pepper and peony, very fleshy palate with slightly firm tannins, taut with good vivacity.

About the domain :

For the past half-decade, this Entre-Deux-Mers cru has been seducing visitors with its generous wines, expressive fruitiness and toasty woodiness.

About the wine:

A 30-hectare estate on the right bank of the Dordogne, run by Hervé Lhuillier since 1997. Merlot, which largely dominates this clay-limestone soil, reigns almost unchallenged in this wine, escorted by the two Cabernets. The color is intense; the nose, with its blend of black fruits and roasted coffee notes left over from a short period of ageing in wood, announces a pleasant palate, which is confirmed by the attack. The tannins give this 2011 good structure, but require two or three years of cellaring to mellow.

Wine rated (2015 guide) 15/20 (Good wine)

Domaine rated (2022 guide) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the domain :

From his family's right-bank vineyard in Vérac, near Fronsac, Hervé Lhuillier has created a true brand of Bordeaux Supérieur, whose fundamentals are depth, authenticity and careful oakiness. New vines of Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot, planted on outcropping limestone (the quarries are open to visitors), will soon go into production. While the densimetric sorting machine has brought greater precision to 2018, we're still thirsty about the somewhat cartoonish extractions and ageing. Let's give the wines time to settle before considering removing the star.

Pleasant fruitiness but dry finish with slightly firm tannins. Drink with a saltier dish to soften the effect.
