Château Sociando-Mallet
The first vintages revealed the exceptional terroir of Château Sociando-Mallet, made up of Guntzian gravel, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon, on a clay subsoil that brings freshness to the wine. Since its acquisition, Jean Gautreau has continued to expand his vineyard by buying vines from his neighbors. Always striving for the best possible quality, he renovated all the buildings, built a winery and gradually improved the grape varieties grown on the estate. Following Jean Gautreau's death in 2019, it is now his daughter Sylvie who devotes herself exclusively to the management of Château Sociando-Mallet, whose vineyards extend over 85 hectares, and whose Haut-Médoc is now indisputably one of the must-have crus for Bordeaux connoisseurs!

" Sociando-Mallet confirms, with brio, the promise shown during the primeurs. Of course, the ageing doesn't go unnoticed, but it's just an accompaniment that gives way to notes of dark berries, liquorice, graphite and mint. The wine stands out for its fullness, elegance and serenity. Its fleshy, slightly sweet tannins go hand in hand with a structuring acidity that complements the fruity expression on the finish. This is a great Sociando-Mallet. Someone up there must be very proud" (Yves Beck 2022).

"The blend has significantly more Merlot than Cabernet Sauvignon, but the latter dominates the dense nose. This wine is exceptional, even by Sociando's high standards: rich and robust, fleshy and concentrated; wonderfully generous fruit, ripe tannins and a long finish." "Intense bouquet combining freshness, fruit and breeding. Inviting notes of blackcurrant and mint. On the palate, the wine is dense, full-bodied and well supported by its tannins. It has character, a lively structure and a persistent fruity expression on the finish. A delicious, crisp, racy wine ". (Yves Beck - 2021)

"This vintage is one of Jean Gautreau's last. A fine expression of the appellation, it is an authentic wine for laying down, yet already very pleasant. The bouquet is a harmonious blend of ripe fruit and wood, while the palate is full and long, with dense, well-coated tannins and fruity aromas of the highest quality". "The bouquet combines the charm of Merlot with the freshness of Cabernet Sauvignon. Inviting nuances of dark berries, cocoa beans and eucalyptus. On the palate, the wine is fine and balanced. Silky tannins provide excellent support. Beautiful fruity intensity through to the finish. A crisp, tasty wine. A great success with a second wine that reaches the level of some classified growths..." (Yves Beck 2021)

"The 2016 Sociando-Mallet has a very intense, rich bouquet [...]. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy, ripe tannins that almost conceal the underlying firm structure. I admire the fullness of this Sociando-Mallet, the carefully embroidered new oak and the freshness of the finish. The 2015 Sociando-Mallet didn't hit the mark last year, but this 2016 is totally convincing. It comes highly recommended as one of the best wines produced at this northern Médoc estate. This is an exceptional Gartreau wine. " (Wine Advocate 2017). - Delivery in wooden case for any order of 6 bottles of this wine (excluding Point Relais delivery).

"Once again, owner Jean Gautreau has struck hard with a magnificent blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Wonderfully soft, ripe tannins seem to be a rule of thumb on this great terroir just north of Saint-Estèphe's Château Montrose. A beautiful deep ruby/purple color, decent acidity, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and astonishing fruit place this wine in the middle of the Médoc's best crus classés, yet it's never been classified. Go figure. Sweeter than I would have expected (I've been following and buying this wine since the mid-1970s), this wine will still age beautifully for 10-15+ years." "The tannic strength of many 2011 Medocs seems relatively moderate here, but there's no lack of concentration in this wine, which is clearly of cru classé quality. It reveals a dense purple color with abundant notes of crème de cassis, crushed rocks and spring flowers. Medium-bodied and very rich, it's a real revelation in a vintage like 2011. Given its earliness and silky tannins, it can be drunk in 2-3 years, or cellared for two decades." (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker). Delivery in wooden cases for orders of 6 bottles of this wine.
