Chateau Kirwan

Château Kirwan owes its name to Mark Kirwan, who, at the end of the 18th century, enlarged the vineyard by combining two small contiguous vineyards in the village of Cantenac: Domaine Ganet and his land at Lasalle. During his visit to Bordeaux in 1787, Thomas Jefferson paid tribute to the quality of the Château's wines. Château Kirwan has belonged to the Schÿler family since 1926.

Château Kirwan has 40 hectares of vines divided into 46 separate plots, and continues to develop its terroir, adapting viticulture to the soil and climate. The vineyard sits on the gravelly hillside of Cantenac, where viticulture is carried out in a highly integrated manner.

Philippe Delfaut, an experienced oenologist from Margaux, was appointed General Manager of the estate in 2008, alongside Sophie Schÿler, to further improve the production of Château Kirwan Grands Crus Classés wines.

"While the wine's color is deep, its bouquet is more discreet, revealing hints of blueberry, sloe and sandalwood on aeration. Supple and suave on the attack, the palate is structured by wood and fine, elegant tannins. Only the finish is still a little tense, calling for a few years' cellaring. "Charmes de Kirwan 2011 is a round, suave and fruity second wine, very charming indeed." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2015). A Margaux that delivers intense fruity notes of cherry and blackcurrant on the nose. Surprisingly round on the palate, supple and fleshy for such a young wine. A lovely sweetness accompanies very supple, unctuous tannins... Delivery in wooden case for orders delivered in France of 6 bottles of this wine.
