Château Haut-Brion
Château Haut-Brion was created and structured in 1533 by Jean de Pontac, making it the oldest vineyard in Bordeaux, with the unique feature of being enclosed within the city.

The Château Haut-Brion vineyard is located on a terroir formed by two large Günzian gravel hilltops, with a clay-limestone subsoil. It covers 51 hectares, 48 of which are planted with red grape varieties (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot) and 3 with white grape varieties (Sémillon and Sauvignon).

In 1855, Château Haut-Brion was elevated to the rank of Premier Cru Classé red of the Gironde. Only three other Bordeaux wines were distinguished in a classification that is still the benchmark today. It is, in a way, the "Father of the Premiers Crus Classés."
