Château Gilette
Château Gilette is owned by an illustrious Sauternes family. René Médeville is credited with having established himself as a great Sauternes craftsman, practicing the long-lasting ageing techniques for which Château Gilette is renowned today. His son Christian succeeded him in 1959 and further developed the ageing techniques of the famous old vintages with the success we know today. He expanded his estates to include Château Respide-Médeville, and soon established himself not only as an eminent vineyard technician, but also as an aesthete of the singular Sauternes wine.

Christian Médeville passionately looks after the 3 estates: Château Gilette, Château Les Justices and Château Respide-Médeville, and his efforts bear fruit. In 2004, his daughter Julie took up the torch with her husband, Xavier Gonet, an oenologist from a very old family of Champagne growers on the Côte des Blancs. Gonet-Médeville Champagnes was born in 2000 from a 7.5-hectare vineyard of Premiers and Grands Crus, and continues the family's winegrowing adventure with passion.

"The 1990 Château Gilette Crème de Tête is the latest vintage from the Medeville family. It has a bouquet of mint and dried white flowers, but it's on the back burner for now, the aromas requiring more time in bottle to release. The palate is fresh on the attack, with subtle notes of nougat, quince, walnuts, almonds and fennel. Having then tasted much older Gilettes, I realize how young it still is, and it will benefit from a decade or so in bottle."
