Bâtard-Montrachet
The appellation d'origine contrôlée Bâtard-Montrachet is a Grand Cru appellation in Côte de Beaune, Côte-d'Or. On the label, the name Grand Cru must appear immediately below the name of each of these appellations in the same font size. The Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru appellation covers the communes of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet.

In Montrachet, shallow soils on hard limestone, crossed by a band of reddish marl. In Bâtard, thicker, more clayey brown limestone soils on the piedmont side. The eleven hectares of vines classified as Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru only permit a confidential production of around 500 hectolitres per year.

The Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru appellation produces exclusively white wines, made from one of Burgundy's flagship grape varieties: Chardonnay. While there are nuances between the different climates, there are common features. The bouquet of Bâtard-Montrachet blanc suggests butter and warm croissant, fern, dried fruit, spices and honey. Body and bouquet become indistinguishable, as structure and harmony merge into perfect unity. Unctuous and firm, dry and caressing, enveloping and profound, it possesses all the graces of an unyielding character. The Bâtard-Montrachet crus offered by Domaine Faiveley, Domaine Joseph Drouhin and Maison Louis Jadot are worthy representatives of the appellation's excellence.

"Great art!"

"Complex smoky nose with gunflint, dried mango, apple pie and seductive notes reminiscent of spice box. Dried lemons and chamomile. Full-bodied, with lots of energy and a solid structure of acidity and phenolic tension. Unfolds and lingers for many minutes. Drink after 2024. (James Suckling 2023)
