Domaine La Croix Montjoie

Located in the Yonne department, in the commune of Tharoiseau, the La Croix Montjoie estate has been run since 2009 by Sophie and Matthieu Woillez, both agricultural engineers and oenologists. The estate's vineyard covers 10 hectares in the still little-known Bourgogne Vézelay appellation. This small appellation in the making is located between Chablis and Beaune, and covers four communes over a hundred hectares. TheCroix Montjoie estatetakesitsname from the cross located at the crossroads of the Vézelay and Tharoiseau roads. 

The Croix Montjoievineyard ,planted mainly with Chardonnay, is exposed to the south/southeast on stony clay-limestone soil where giant Gryphaea fossils can be found. The vast majority of the estate's production focuses on white wines, the jewels in the appellation's crown, made from a single Chardonnay grape variety. Three delicious vintages are available: L'Impatiente, L'Élégante and La Voluptueuse. The range of this promising estate is completed by a red wine from Irancy, a Crémant de Bourgogne with its festive bubbles, and the traditional Ratafia de Bourgogne.

This appellation has a sacred character, as the Basilica of Sainte Marie-Madeleine, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, dominates the vineyard on the hill of Vézelay. This important pilgrimage site is a starting point for the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela.
