Francis Ford Coppola Winery
In 1973, a year after the success of "The Godfather", Francis Ford Coppola and his wife Eleanor bought a property at Inglenook in the Rutherford region of California. At the time, the property included neither the château nor the vineyards along State Route 29, but only a large building and hillside vineyards.
It wasn't until 1995, with the screen success of "Dracula", that Francis Ford Coppola acquired the château and surrounding vineyards. The deal convinced the director to get serious about producing quality wines, and to recruit qualified personnel to manage the vineyard.
With the purchase of the château, Francis Ford Coppola inherited a stock of 480,000 bottles of wine, labeled under the previous owner's brand name. He decided to redesign the label, proposing a diamond shape. It was at this point that the "Diamond Collection" range was launched. It was a huge success, boosting the volume of Francis Ford Coppola Winery's production.
The Inglenook vineyard is one of the big names in Napa Valley, recognized as one of the best regions for Cabernet Sauvignon production in California. That's why Francis Ford Coppola recruited Philippe Bascaules, Château Margaux's Director of Operations, in 2011. The aim of this move: to gain recognition for the Inglenook terroir by harvesting grapes earlier and reducing yields.
