"Coteau de Noiré on a south-facing clay-limestone terroir, shines with ageing potential and nuanced intensity." (Bettane & Desseauve 2025). Coteau de Noiré, the grand cuvée of Domaine Philippe Alliet, is exceptional in its balance and complexity. A beautiful minerality combined with noble, powerful tannins make this an excellent wine for laying down.

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (guide 2025 ) 95/100
Domaine rated (guide 2025) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the wine:
Coteau de Noiré, on a south-facing clay-limestone terroir, shines with its ageing potential and nuanced intensity.
About the domain :
More than ever a benchmark in the Loire, Domaine des Alliet - Claude, Philippe and their son Pierre - is dedicated to the cause of great Cabernet Franc wines. The new generation has moved away from heavy ageing, and the wines gain in refinement in their youth, while retaining great staying power over time. Coteau-de-Noiré, with its south-facing clay-limestone terroir, shines with ageing potential and nuanced intensity.

Rated (guide 2024) 94-96/100 (Extraordinary wine)
About the wine:
Already in barrel, the Chinon Coteau de Noiré 2022, from a steep, south-facing hillside of clay and limestone, is one of the most impressive and refined wines I've tasted at this address. Evoking a complex, elegant bouquet of spice, pencil lead, licorice, dark wild berries and cedar, it is full-bodied, ample and enveloping with a textured attack, a layered, fleshy core of fruit structured around soft, powdery tannins and bright acids, finishing with a long, mineral, ethereal finish. It could evolve gracefully and more harmoniously with time in the cellar.

Domaine rated (guide 2025) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the domain :
The discreet Claude and Philippe Alliet were the creators of a new style in Chinon in the 1990s. Their cuvées Vieilles Vignes (gravel, vines 70 to 90 years old, 18 months in concrete vats), L'Huisserie (hilltop and flinty clay plateau) and especially Coteau de Noiré (steep, south-facing clay-limestone slope), seduced Cabernet Franc lovers with their dark color and incredible density. But there's no set recipe for Philippe Alliet, a fine taster and outstanding winemaker, backed up by his son, Pierre, since 2005, who helps him shape ever deeper, more stylish wines. As of 2010, the Bordeaux barrels have been replaced by 500-liter barrels, and the proportion of new wood has been greatly reduced.
