"Cuvée identitaire des Côtes du Forez" (Côtes du Forez identity wine)
On a soil of volcanic rock, the vines of Mémoire de Madone represent a parcel of local Gamay grapes nearly 50 years old. This amateur's wine is at first surprising for its structure, a little tight when young, which will soften with age. On the palate, tangy, vegetal notes emerge, supported by good volume. A truly terroir-driven cuvée, original and profound, to be cellared for some time.

About the domain :
Gilles Bonnefoy created his estate from scratch in 1997, planting vines from 2001 to 2016 and setting up the winery in 2004. Today, a 10.5-hectare biodynamic estate, set on the outskirts of 2 volcanoes: La Madone and Le Pigeonnier.

Rated wine (guide 2021) 93/100 (Vintage 2019)
Domaine rated (2024 guide) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the domain :
Les Vins de la Madone is one of the most exciting experiences in Côtes du Forez, a discreet appellation located between Saint-Étienne and Clermont-Ferrand, at the gateway to the Livradois-Forez natural park. Gilles Bonnefoy strives to capture the sparkling purity of fruit, both in his Gamay reds and in his whites (IGP d'Urfé), a Roussanne and a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris. This radiance, drawn from granite and volcanic soils, is achieved through biodynamic vineyard management (certified in 2008) and vinification partly in whole bunches, with ageing exclusively in vats. The star of this domaine is firmly set.

Good product but rather confusing at first, especially for a gamay. Currently too young to be fully appreciated unless you let it oxidize (opened 15 days ago and kept under vacuum, then tasted every 4 to 5 days, never tasted as good as it does now, hence the 4. At first I would have given it a 3, but if you wait at least two years, it should be perfect. reserved for those who like to be surprised by new flavors, but I'll buy it again occasionally.
