Visit Champarlan estate was created in 2003 by David Girard, winemaker in Humbligny, in the Menetou-Salon appellation. In 2011, he is joined by his brother Luc on 47 hectares of vines. Together, they are developing the vineyard: integrated vineyard management, a new winery for vinification and ageing, and a new cellar for customer reception.
60% of the vineyard is planted with grass to encourage competition between the vines, explore the terroir and prevent hillside erosion. With the least interventionist approach possible, the Champarlan estate wishes to preserve all the richness of its terroir. The terroir of Champarlan estate lies on Kimmeridgian and Portlandian terroir, with soil composed of limestone sediments from the Upper Jurassic period. The grape varieties grown are Sauvignon for the white wines and Pinot Noir for the reds.
Following his marriage, David Girard took over production in the Sancerre appellation from his parents-in-law's estate, Domaine Régis Jouan.
