Stéphane Montez du Monteillet
Since the 16th century, the Monteillet estate has belonged to the Villard family, whose most famous representative is Louis Hector, Duc de Villard, Marshal of France under Louis XIV (1653-1734). Patiently, gradually, Stéphane Montez's ancestors, winegrowers, bargemen and coopers, driven by their love of the Rhône and the work of the vine, bought up the estate's land parcel by parcel. Today, Stéphane Montez succeeds his father Antoine, who passed on all his know-how to him. Stéphane Montez spent two years working in vineyards around the world, in England, Australia, California and South Africa. This adventure abroad made Stéphane aware of the unique character of terroir, the very privilege that brings balance to wines. The Montez family now plant, vinify, mature and market their wines, covering 24 hectares and three appellations.

Viognier and Syrah flourish on these terraced hillsides supported by low dry-stone walls known as "chaillées".
The terroir of the St Joseph Nord, Côte-Rôtie and Condrieu vineyards lies on the slopes of the right bank of the Rhône.

"A tribute to Stéphane's father with this exceptional cuvée.

"More Côte-Rôtie than Saint-Joseph, the 2022 Saint-Joseph Cuvée Du Papy has a gorgeous nose of black raspberry and blackberry, intermixed with notes of ground pepper, smoked meat and crushed stone. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, with fine, polished, well-built tannins and a lovely finish." (Jeb Dunnuck 2024)

"A singing Viognier!"

Another Condrieu expression: golden-hued, Chanson offers a racy, buttery nose with notes of pear, apricot, toast and violet. On the palate, the minerality of the terroir provides excellent tension. A must-have!

"A velvety Syrah

A fine expression of the grape variety, with just the right ripeness and a floral, spicy dimension. The woodiness is nuanced and the whole is pure. The palate is in the same vein, with a velvety, fine structure. Not very extracted, the wine shines through on the palate.

A benchmark white wine from the Saint Joseph appellation, this cuvée has a highly developed, refined bouquet with notes of orchard fruit and white flowers, intoxicating us on the way to an intense, beautifully mineral palate. A great Rhône white!

"Le Petit Viognier" was the name of a variety of Viognier in the mid-19th century, which was not very productive and reserved for hillsides. Taut, upright and mineral, with an expressive, gourmet nose typical of the grape variety, this Viognier is now one of the greats!

Situated on a parcel of rolled pebbles bordering the Rhône opposite the estate, this pretty white offers suave notes of spring flowers, apricots and citrus fruits, all in a beautiful body. The wine is fleshy yet clean and structured, with a silky feel on the long finish. Gourmet finesse!
