Citran Castle
Château Citran is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc region. The Marquises of Donissan, who were related to the French royal family on several occasions, ruled here for 600 years and only abandoned their château in the mid-19th century. Since then, the management of the wine estate has undergone various ups and downs.

From enterprising men to widespread crisis, the size of the vineyard has fluctuated from 90 hectares to less than 4. Everything returned to normal in 1945 with the Miailhe brothers. But about ten years ago, a serious boost was given to the pursuit of quality. Through hard work and colossal investments begun under the previous Japanese management,Château Citran joined the elite of the Haut-Médoc and cru bourgeois under the leadership of the new owners, who remain vigilant. The Merlaut-Villars family are major players in the Médoc. They are true connoisseurs of wine and terroir. Symbolizing the revival of this good old bourgeois estate, the young Céline Villars now represents Château Citran.

The Château Citran vineyard is divided into two parts. One borders the Margaux appellation and is located near the château. The other is close to the commune of Avensan, in the heart of the Haut-Médoc appellation. The first is the most spectacular: the gravelly hilltop on which it is located slopes gently down towards the château, nestled in its wooded and humid setting.
