Méric Castle
A historic estate, the name MERIC and its famous knight were already mentioned in French history as early as the Middle Ages, around the year 1100. It was in 1868 that the Château Méric terroir became a "Crû Bourgeois" in the second edition of Ferret's guide, at the top of the commune of Jau Dignac et Loirac. At the time, Château Méric wines were appreciated for their finesse, with silky tannins combined with aromas of red fruits and vanilla, making them particularly sought-after.

Château Méric is the northernmost vineyard in the Médoc region. Its 32 hectares are ideally located between the ocean and the river, 90 km north of Bordeaux, on the edge of the Gironde estuary, 12 km from the Atlantic Ocean and 6 km from the banks of the Gironde. Thanks to its northern location, Château Méric benefits greatly from the effects of the surrounding bodies of water (the ocean and the river). The striking appeal of the Médoc vineyards lies in their succession of small gravelly hills, known as "croupes" or "Graves": a mixture of pebbles, sand, and gravel drained over the centuries by the estuary, giving the terroir its exceptional character. The Méric vineyard is planted in the pure Médoc tradition, exclusively with noble and classic grape varieties that make up the APO Médoc: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The Méric vineyard is planted exclusively with noble and classic grape varieties that make up the APO Médoc, in keeping with pure Médoc tradition: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.

Since 1999, Marius Chala and the new management team have revived the name and reputation of this exceptional vineyard by combining tradition with cutting-edge winemaking and aging technologies. These production methods, which preserve the balance between the soil and the vines, promote the development of wines with a strong personality. For 20 years, Méric wines have been produced using sustainable farming methods and have been Terra Vitis and HVE3 certified since 2017. In line with this approach, the vineyard has been undergoing a conversion to organic farming certified by ECOCERT since 2019.
