Château Haut-Bages Libéral
3.5/5See the 2 reviews
Adjacent to the vineyards of Château Latour and Château Pichon Baron in Pauillac, the family Liberala broker from father to son, ruled the estate Haut Bages Liberal since the early 18th century. They were able to bring together the best terroirs, allowing the Château Haut Bages Liberal to enter the famous 1855 classification and achieve the title of Fifth Classified Growth.
In 1960, the Cruse family, new owners already at the helm of another Cinquième cru classé, Pontet-Canet, revitalized the Haut Bages Libéral vineyard with a vast replanting program. In 1982, the Villars-Merlaut family took full advantage of this hard work.
Since 2000, Claire Villars-Lurton has taken over the work of her parents, overseeing the development of Cru Haut Bages Libéral as well as Châteaux Ferrière and La Gurgue.
The Haut Bages Libéral vineyard covers 30 hectares of vines, 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot on 2 types of soil: deep gravel and clay-limestone, chalky limestone.

"This is one of three biodynamically-managed estates owned by Gonzague and Claire Lurton. The wine is generous and has a firm structure, in the style of the estate. Ample, with a dry body but coated with black fruits, blackberries, blackcurrants, it promises great things. The finish is clean, limpid and crisp. Drink from 2024." (Wine Enthusisat - 2018) Delivery in wooden case for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (excluding Point Relais delivery method).
