Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 18.5/20 (Wine of exceptional quality)
Domaine rated (2021 guide) 5*Stars (Outstanding producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and the world)
About the wine:
Subtle fruit and oak, superb notes of Havana and flint, great depth on the palate. Powerful, elegant, with noble tannins, long-lasting aromas and a freshness that guarantees great potential.
About the domain :
Here's an estate held in high esteem by all, with a superb single vineyard surrounding the château, among the best cultivated in Bordeaux. Olivier Bernard is a tireless ambassador for Bordeaux wines around the world. He is also one of those who most intimately know the value of their product, thanks to daily tastings in the company of the countless visitors to the estate, a pioneer in welcoming the public. The whites are the most racy in the commune, the reds models of Bordeaux classicism in their proportions and flavor. The latest reds are impressive for their extra body and complexity. Beautiful nuances, tension and energy for the white esprit-de-chevalier, which is the perfect reflection of the great wine. The 2016, 2017 and 2018 reds and whites are simply top-notch, and the estate richly deserves its 5-star rating.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine rated (2018 guide) 2*Coup de Coeur (Outstanding wine)
About the wine:
From first contact, this wine shows its strong personality, its deep color giving it pride of place; the same is true of its bouquet, with warm notes of ripe black fruit, well blended with spicy, toasty oak. Ample and elegant on the attack, the palate then retains its charm and taste, showing lovely volume, finesse and complex aromas in harmony with the nose (blackcurrant, blackberry, spices). Its mellow, almost creamy tannins reveal a subtle breed, particularly noticeable on the long finish. Silky yet robust.
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Wine rated (2016 guide) 17.5/20 (Outstanding)
About the wine:
Lovely nose of black fruit, spices, wood and toast, with tension, structure and real density. Freshness, density, delicacy and finesse of grain and tannins. Fresh and suave. A great success.

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Rated (2017 guide) 17.5/20 (Grand vin)
Domaine rated (2022 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the domain :
Since 1983, the Bernard family has been doing its utmost to keep this fine estate at the forefront of the appellation. Thanks to state-of-the-art technical equipment and a vineyard that is now old enough to produce great grapes, the wines are irreproachable, both white and red. The vineyard, located in one of the cooler areas of the appellation, on the edge of the Landes forest, is tended like a garden. The white grapes are sorted with extreme care, and vinification has become considerably more sophisticated, without altering the style or class of this highly reputed wine. Chevalier embodies finesse and elegance, without compromising ageing potential.
