"Wonderful, complex, subtle, expressive nose, offering floral, fruity and mineral notes, palate up to scratch, with satiny grain, silkiness, amplitude but nothing in force. Length, power, refinement, freshness and balance, it's all there. A great wine, the very idea of a great Pessac". Bettane & Desseauve

Rated 19/20 (Wine of exceptional quality)

Domaine rated (2021 guide) 5*Stars (Outstanding producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and the world)

About the wine:

A marvellously complex, subtle, expressive nose, offering floral, fruity and mineral notes. The palate is up to the task, with a satiny texture, silkiness, amplitude but nothing in the way of strength. Length, power, refinement, freshness and balance, it's all there. A great wine, the very idea of a great Pessac.

About the domain :

Here's an estate held in high esteem by all, with a superb single vineyard surrounding the château, among the best cultivated in Bordeaux. Olivier Bernard is a tireless ambassador for Bordeaux wines around the world. He is also one of those who most intimately know the value of their product, thanks to daily tastings in the company of the countless visitors to the estate, a pioneer in welcoming the public. The whites are the most racy in the commune, the reds models of Bordeaux classicism in their proportions and flavor. The latest reds are impressive for their extra body and complexity. Beautiful nuances, tension and energy for the white esprit-de-chevalier, which is the perfect reflection of the great wine. The 2016, 2017 and 2018 reds and whites are simply top-notch, and the estate richly deserves its 5-star rating.

About the wine:

The 2016 Domain de Chevalier is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it brims with expressive warm plums, blueberry compote and cassis scents with suggestions of sandalwood, baking spices and potpourri. Medium-bodied and delicately coiffed but with a rock-solid weave of grainy tannins, it sports restrained earthy fruit and a long finish.

Wine rated (2020 guide) 19/20 + Coup de Coeur (Exceptional wine)

Domaine rated (2022 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the wine:

The 2016 red is absolutely magnificent, with tannins of a smoothness and precision never achieved here. A pure, long, suave wine.

About the domain :

Since 1983, the Bernard family has been doing its utmost to keep this fine estate at the forefront of the appellation. Thanks to state-of-the-art technical equipment and a vineyard that is now old enough to produce great grapes, the wines are irreproachable, both white and red. The vineyard, located in one of the cooler areas of the appellation, on the edge of the Landes forest, is tended like a garden. The white grapes are sorted with extreme care, and vinification has become considerably more sophisticated, without altering the style or class of this highly reputed wine. Chevalier embodies finesse and elegance, without compromising ageing potential.

About the wine:

This elegant wine wears its firm tannic structure lightly. It's densely textured, just beginning its road to maturity. The black plum and berry fruit give the wine as much weight as the tannins. It will age well for many years. Drink in 2026.

Dikke ruby kleur. Score: 16,5+/20
