Château Eglise-Clinet

Château Eglise-Clinet
Château Eglise-Clinet was created in 1882 when Mr. Mauleon-Rouchut, grandfather of current owner Denis Durantou, brought together various parcels of Clos de l'Eglise and Domaine de Clinet. Château Eglise-Clinet thus comprises a 4.5-hectare vineyard surrounding the Church of Saint-Jean de Pomerol, in the Bordeaux region.

Resting on clay-gravel soil, the vines of Château Eglise-Clinet take advantage of the natural slopes of the plots and the century-old network of drains to avoid excess water. Reaching an average age of over 40 years, the vines are 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet franc. After daily berry tasting, carried out by some thirty pickers, the harvest is carried out rapidly, thanks to leaf-thinning and thinning carried out from August to September. After a two- to three-week vatting period, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 18 months. The result is Pomerol wines of great density, but whose elegance places Château Eglise-Clinet at the pinnacle of the appellation.

"The finesse of grain and texture, the skilful balance between ripeness and freshness, and the art of ageing are all characteristic of Denis Durantou, and give his cru a rare elegance that still places it in the top five of its appellation." (Le Grand Guide des Vins de France 2011 - Bettane & Desseauve)
