Château Lagrange
Château Lagrange is located in the commune of Saint-Julien, in the Bordeaux region. The Château Lagrange vineyard extends over 115 hectares in a single block, on two north-south-facing gravelly ridges of "Gunzian" origin. Sometimes fine, sometimes coarser, these gravels are accompanied by either sand or ferruginous clay.

At an altitude of 24 meters, the center of the estate is the highest point in the Saint-Julien appellation. Château Lagrange 's viticultural methods aim for perfection, and respond to an essential idea: "quantity does not necessarily rhyme with quality". From the choice of clones and rootstocks adapted to the soil of Château Lagrange, to the numerous operations in the vineyard, everything is done to maintain the most homogeneous production possible. High planting density, short pruning, thinning in July and traditional ploughing help to achieve this goal, producing rich, concentrated grapes. Hand-picking, as tradition dictates, allows us to sort out the best bunches, but above all to eliminate those that are defective, green or damaged.

An extraordinary story

The history of the Château Lagrange vineyards began in the 17th century. The birth of this unique estate resulted from the unification of two territories: that of Pellecahus and that of the Lagrange de Monteil family. In the 18th century, the vineyard prospered under the impetus of one of the heirs to the Lagrange family. But it was in 1855 that Château Lagrange officially acquired its letters of nobility, establishing itself as a Third Cru Classé. Unfortunately, the centuries that followed heralded an inevitable decline: wars, crises and fires caused the Château's vines to deteriorate. But in 1983, a revival began: the Japanese Suntory group bought the vineyards and considerably expanded the estate. From then on, Château Lagrange wines regained their former prestige.

The advantages of a Château Lagrange wine

Located in the commune of Saint-Julien, the Château Lagrange wine estate covers 117 hectares. This vast area features three distinct grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit-Verdot. Although the estate's grape-pickers vinify mainly red wines, a few hectares are home to a white vineyard composed of Sauvignon, Sémillon and Muscadelle. Generally speaking, Château Lagrange has many qualities: refinement, thickness and intensity. Ageing potential is also one of the major assets of these wines with their delicately crafted aromas. An elegant color, a well-balanced palate and a gourmet finish await wine lovers. To achieve these results, the domaine's winemakers call on the skills of various oenologists. These experts control the grape varieties and define their main characteristics. This attention to detail results in quality wines that age to perfection.

Environmentally-friendly viticulture

Far from intensive production, the Château Lagrange winegrowers are concerned with environmental issues. Relying on traditional methods, these nature-lovers tend their vines according to the vagaries of the land and climate. It's a testament to the winemakers' ongoing commitment to sustainable development. This respect for the ecosystem is designed to enhance the estate's prestige. In 2005, Château Lagrange received its first recognition: certification as an "Agriculture raisonnée" winegrower. Some ten years later, the estate was awarded a second distinction: ISO 14001 certification, proof of its optimal ecological commitment. The estate also uses specific tools to reduce the environmental impact of its services.

What underpins the prestige of Château Lagrange?

A Château Lagrange production guarantees oenophiles quality wines, incomparable aromas and a responsible, forward-looking approach. Beyond history, these are the elements that fuel the excellence of this institution today.

"Year after year, Lagrange's style is acclaimed! ~ Yves Beck "

"In terms of authenticity and repetitiveness, this vintage is very strong! Year after year, Lagrange's style is acclaimed. The Cabernet Sauvignon brings out its freshness, while the Merlot smoothes out the edges. Lagrange is sapid, full-bodied and perfectly supported by creamy tannins. The acid structure provides a good backbone and highlights the aromatic expression on the finish. An expressive, persistent Lagrange with a revitalizing freshness" (Yves Beck 2022) - Delivery in wooden cases possible for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and shipping method selected).
