Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2020 guide) 92/100
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the wine:
Nice style, close to that of a great wine, good body, with freshness to balance the high ripeness of the grapes. A perfect wine in its category, and a well-considered price that puts it within everyone's reach.
About the domain :
Like its neighbor Gruaud-Larose, this vast, homogeneous vineyard has seen its vines age and develop an intensity unknown to great wine, while over the last three years, thanks to the efforts of its current technical team, it has refined its style. His wine is a straightforward, classic, almost mineral expression of Saint-Julien's finest soils, and he confesses an undeniable community of flavor and style with léoville-las-cases, which is no small compliment. Excellent value for money.

Rated wine (guide 2022) 90/100
About the wine:
Bouquet of flowers and blackcurrant. Great sweetness and juice with roundness, lots of aromas. Soft, playful, good depth, discreet but well-balanced and well-presented. 2022 - 2030
Guide des Vins Gault & Millau
Estate rated 5*Stars (Outstanding production)
About the domain :
It's often thanks to the will of the owner that Bordeaux châteaux manage to find their expression. Lagrange was unlucky, changing owners frequently. It wasn't until the arrival of the Japanese Suntory group in 1983 that Lagrange received the full attention it deserved: a new vineyard, a new winery and, above all, a crack team led by Marcel Ducasse - replaced in 2007 by Bruno Eynard, who had assisted him for 17 years. The new vat room is now used for even more sophisticated parcel-based vinification.

Domaine noté (guide 2019) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the domain :
Acquired by the Japanese Suntory group in 1983, the château has rapidly established itself as a dependable and consistent name in the appellation, producing elegant, well-crafted wines that are always affordable. This vast estate is run in a serious manner, but its latest vintages, while not demeriting, have seemed a little less convincing. In a highly competitive world, with neighbors who leave no stone unturned to produce the greatest possible wines, Lagrange seems a little static, which leads us to withdraw its star.
James Suckling
Rated wine (guide 2022) 92/100
Graded area (2021 guide) Recommended
About the wine:
Very clean aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry with dried flowers and sandalwood. Full-bodied but with very tight, refined tannins that run through the finish. Very well made.
Vert de Vin
Rated wine (2020 guide) 93/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is elegant, greedy and powerful. Juicy/pulpy boysenberry, wild raspberry and a hint of cuben pepper are combined with hints of ripe black berries, plump black plum and fine points of racy minerality. The palate is fruity and balanced, offering tension, precision, deliciousness and a touch of freshness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy blackcurrant, boysenberry and, more lightly, tart red berries, combined with touches of tart wild raspberry and fine hints of zan, toasted hazelnut and chocolate. Good length. Elegant tannins.

Note and review by M. GILLES D. Published on 01/05/2023
If you're looking for the power and vigor associated with the finesse and depth that usually characterize Saint-Julien wines, you'd better pass, because Fiefs are not about body and depth, but about freshness and softness. Firm character, straight, tight tannins, long, concentrated fruit with balsamic and spicy aromas, strong finish with a hint of acidity. Despite a 2019 vintage considered exceptional, this second wine is hardly emotionally fruitful. Perhaps we need to wait a few years for the wine to blossom and become more profound? In any case, best tasting sensations the next day with a filet of brocades with spring peas. Score = 3.9.
