"Here is a very solid candidate in the race to the top of the vintage! ~ La RVF "

"Léoville-Poyferré 2015 is spectacular. Inky, dense and explosive, this 2015 possesses uncommon richness, with supple, smooth contours and exceptional balance. All the elements are simply fused. Notes of blue and purplish fruits, chocolate, new leather, blueberry jam, exotic spices and violets are all beautifully underlined. Fresh, vibrant and totally sexy, Léoville-Poyferré is one of the wines of the vintage, so don't miss it! Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated 19/20 (Wine of exceptional quality)

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 4*Stars (Very high quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the wine:

A great, complete wine, confirming the promise of the barrel, with a magical texture that equals the greatest vintages of the past. Wait another ten years. 2027-2040

About the domain :

The cru's privileged position is opposite the best parcels of Léoville-Las Cases and in line with those of Pichon-Longueville Baron. The wine perfectly reflects this position, regularly one of the most powerful yet complex and harmonious in the Médoc. A slightly higher percentage of Merlot than the other two Léovilles influences its slightly rounder texture. Didier Cuvelier is taking semi-retirement, but will obviously continue to oversee the continuity of the excellence he has established. Pavillon-de-poyferré, now the château's true second wine, is progressing, as is Moulin-riche, now from a district of its own, a little like Clos-du-Marquis in relation to Léoville's grand vin.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 2*Coup de Coeur (Outstanding wine)

Domaine noté (guide 2020) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the wine:

A remarkable vintage for Léoville Poyferré with this very elegant wine, with its deep ruby color and powerful bouquet of black cherry, licorice and toast. All the evidence suggests that good grapes met good merrains: the palate is velvety, rich, concentrated, structured by racy oak and powerful yet silky tannins. 2022-2030

About the domain :

Like the other two crus born of the former Domaine de Léoville, Poyferré, named after the Comte de Poyferré, from a noble house of Armagnac, who inherited the vineyard from his wife at the time of the split, benefits from a choice terroir. This 80-hectare terroir is spread throughout the commune of Saint-Julien: to the east, near the Gironde, gravel and brown pebbles; to the west, black sands. These assets have been developed since 1979 by Didier Cuvelier, whose family, former wine merchants in Lille, acquired the estate in 1920.

Rated wine (2018 guide) 98/100 Favorite

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the wine:

Here's a very strong contender in the race to the top of the vintage. Massive, dense, but also very subtle, it imposes its great breed on the palate and, above all, its very noble tannins.

About the domain :

Since the end of the 70's and the arrival of Didier Cuvelier, this second growth has been completely renovated. Numerous plots have been replanted and the winemaking equipment updated. The vines are now of a respectable age, and the cru is in the race for excellence in an appellation with many challengers. The wines have a vigor and fullness that place them at the top of the appellation. The terroir lends Poyferré its depth of color, its full, nervous flesh, its broad, spicy bouquet, and its potential for longevity.

About the wine:

A rich, intense red with blackberries, tar and spices. Black tea and blueberries. Full-bodied, very layered and multidimensional. Very long and tasty. Such a lovely texture. A superb, dynamic red.

About the wine:

Léoville Poyferré 2015 is cut from the same cloth as the 2016, but is sexier, rounder and more opulent. Notes of cassis, licorice, crushed stone, lead pencil and graphite emerge from this unctuous, ripe wine of great beauty, bursting with fruit and texture. This wine reminds me of the 2003, but it's fresher. It should drink well in 3-4 years and last 3-4 decades.

Rated wine (2017 guide) 96/100

About the wine:

Deep garnet-red. Intense, complex bouquet marked by dark berries, cocoa beans and hints of mint. Slightly fruity, compact attack. On the palate, perfectly integrated, slightly grainy tannins lend power and elegance, in symbiosis with structure. A deep, subtle wine at the pinnacle of the St-Julien appellation. Awe-inspiring! 2023-2045

The Wine Cellar Insider - Jeff Leve

Rated wine (guide 2022) 97/100

About the wine:

With a slight lightening of the color, the wine shows itself from the start with nuances of blackcurrant and redcurrant, spices, flowers, crème de cassis, thyme, smoke and licorice. On the palate, the wine is opulent, long, polished, lush and elegant. The fruit glides across your palate, offering waves of sweet, deep red berries. The finish persists, builds and extends. Give it a few more years and you'll find even more opulence and sensuality. Drink from 2027 to 2057.
