"What a great achievement!"

"A complex, refreshing bouquet marked by aromas of mirabelle plums, pineapple, and green apples. The nose also reveals notes of caramel and nougat. On the palate, there is class, tension, and freshness, but also richness and density. A lingering finish, ideally supported by the structure. What strength of character and what promising prospects. Guiraud 2017 is one of the greatest successes of Sauternes in 2017." (Yves Beck 2020) - Delivery in wooden cases is available for orders of 12 bottles of this wine (depending on the country and shipping method selected) .

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

The château is owned by four partners: Robert Peugeot, Xavier Planty (who manages the estate), Stephan von Neipperg, and Olivier Bernard. Certified organic since 2011 and boasting a unique collection of Aquitaine white grape varieties (175 strains of Sauvignon and Sémillon), Guiraud is leading the way in sustainable agriculture in the Sauternes region. The grapes are harvested with precision when perfectly botrytized to produce two types of sweet wine. The grand vin is refined and evolves fairly quickly in the bottle, while the Petit Guiraud is deliberately less rich but perfect as an aperitif, as can be seen in the elegant restaurant-brasserie that the estate has just opened. The dry Bordeaux G is less appealing, clean but too simple for the terroir.

Rated estate (2020 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

This Sauternes premier cru classé is now owned by four co-owners: Robert Peugeot, Olivier Bernard (Domaine de Chevalier), Stephan Von Neipperg (Château Canon-la-Gaffelière), and Xavier Planty. Under the skilled management of Xavier Planty, the wine has been a perfect example of a great modern Sauternes for many vintages, roasted, very open from its early years and having gained enormously in finesse and minerality. The viticulture is meticulously cared for, and Guiraud was the first of the 1855 classified growths to obtain organic certification, in 2011. With tremendous determination, the estate manages to respect the natural development of noble rot. As for the winemaking process, it refuses to use any chaptalization, as should be the case for all classified growths—a cause championed by Xavier Planty. The château also produces a large volume of dry white wine to be drunk in its youth on terroirs not classified in Sauternes, under the Bordeaux appellation.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 95/100

About wine:

Sample from barrels. Ripe, botrytized fruit currently dominates this richly concentrated wine. It is a full-bodied, sweet wine that will age for many years. Drink from 2025 onwards.

Wine rated (2019 guide) 95/100

About wine:

Guiraud 2017 bursts with pineapple, passion fruit, spices, and vanilla. Rich, structured, and racy, it shows tremendous character and personality. Readers should expect a bold and extroverted Sauternes. I loved it. 2022–2042

James Suckling

James Suckling

Wine rated (2019 guide) 95/100

About wine:

It is very fruity and layered with botrytis spices and flavors of dried apricots and pears. It has body. Very smooth with a hint of acidity. There is an almost sweet-and-sour nuance to this wine. Made from organically grown grapes. Drink from 2021 onwards.

On the palate, there is class, tension, and freshness, but also richness and density. The finish is persistent and ideally supported by the structure. Vert de Vin

Wine rated (2018 guide) 95-96/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)

About wine:

The nose is fruity, elegant, and offers a delicate freshness, a subtle juiciness, and a hint of indulgence. There are notes of candied lemon, candied pear, and a lighter touch of white peach, combined with subtle hints of lychee/exotic fruits, spices, and verbena. The palate is fruity and balanced, offering a delicate acidity, good juiciness, good definition, richness, roundness, a slight airiness, depth and a touch of creaminess. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of candied lemon, dried apricot, candied mandarin, and more subtly crystallized citrus, pear/nectarine, combined with subtle hints of fresh ginger, verbena, juicy fruit, and a subtle hint of nuts (in the background).  Good length. The finish is a little tight. Good acidity persistence. Slight chewiness on the retro.

Fantastic! One of the best Sauternes I've ever tasted. The nose alone is superb. A beautiful length on the palate that prolongs the pleasure.
