"A collaboration between Jeff Cohn and Yves Cuilleron, the 2018 Syrah Domain des Chirats is another dense, rich and very intense Syrah from the range that shows incredible complexity in its bright blueberry and cherry fruit as well as notes of violet, white pepper, sandalwood and bouquet garni-like aromas and flavors. This full-bodied, tannic and powerful wine develops smoky bacon fat aromas, similar to those of Côte Rôtie, as well as an increasingly pronounced structure as it rests in the glass. Syrah vines selected from Hermitage, planted in the Sonoma Valley, on the Rockpile vineyard, one of the finest terroirs, situated on hillsides at 613 meters altitude. The wine's nose is beautifully complex, with notes of garrigue, black and red fruits, and Provençal herbs. The palate is fleshy, greedy and spicy, with an incredible final freshness reminiscent of the heights of the vines and the minerality of the terroir. A micro-cuvée of Rhône Syrah, California version!
