Ribera del Jucar
Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) Ribera del Jucar is a young appellation created in 2003 in the Cuenca region of central Spain. The Ribera del Jucar PDO covers over nine thousand hectares of vineyards, located in the municipalities of Casas de Benítez, Casas de Fernando Alonso, Casas de Guijarro, Casas de Haro, El Picazo, Pozoamargo and Sisante. The Ribera del Jucar PDO was conceived as a global project based on the balance of the ecosystem linked to viticulture. It takes into account respect for the environment, the development of vineyards and the local economy, notably through the development of ecotourism.

The Ribera del Jucar production area is a vast plain, dotted with a few hills and broken by the presence of the river that gives the appellation its name. This unique location and the Ribera del Jucar's temperate Mediterranean microclimate provide excellent conditions for growing grapes. The grape varieties included in the Ribera del Jucar PDO are Cencibel or Tempranillo , Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot , Syrah and Bobal , Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The varieties used for white wines are Moscatel de Grano Menudo and Sauvignon Blanc. 50% of the varieties are between 35 and 40 years old, offering a balance between yield and grape quality. This young appellation is perfectly showcased by the wines offered by Bodegas La Magdalena Vega Moragona.

90/100 Robert Parker

"Vega Moragona Vinas Viejas 2010 has used less wood than the 2011. The nose is more expressive and lively, with well-defined notes of small black cherries, blueberry, vanilla and a hint of dark chocolate. The palate is medium-bodied, with a fleshy, greedy attack - a sumptuous Tempranillo, modern in style, slender and well-balanced on the palate, with a touch of spice and white pepper adorning the long finish. Very beautiful." (Wine Advocate 2013 - Robert Parker)
