Giovanni Manzone Estate
Giovani Manzone bought the parish priest's house in Monforte d'Alba, Piedmont, in 1925 and began cultivating vines. Over the years, the property expanded and the domaine Manzone now covers 8 hectares Barolo, Barbera, Langhe and Dolcetto appellations.
Three localities on limestone soils allow the Rossese, Barbera, Dolcetto and above all Nebbiolo grape varieties to flourish, producing fine wines with a more pronounced structure depending on the type of terroir.

In the vineyards, the Manzone family's philosophy is based on a profound respect for the living world: Piedmont Green Experience certification, grassed vines, no use of pesticides and minimal intervention. In the cellar, the style is traditional, with long maceration and no mechanical intervention. No fining or filtration, and minimal use of SO2. Although the wine is aged for long periods in 400 to 600-liter barrels, new wood is not used to preserve the finesse of the Nebbiolo.

90/100 James Suckling

"Lots of blueberries as well as bright lemons and orange peel. Light to medium-bodied body with lots of orange marmalade and watermelon flavors. Fine tannins and a very fruity but still quite tasty finish. Drink now." (James Suckling 2019) A most seductive Barbera!

Domaine Giovanni Manzone - Barolo Castelletto 2014

92/100 James Suckling

" I love the richness and vitality of the fruit on the nose, which ranges from blueberry and blackcurrant to cherry essence. A touch of baking spice too. The fruit doesn't disappoint on the palate, blending well with fresh acidity and a hint of savory tannins. Drink from 2020." (James Suckling 2018)

Dolcetto, originally from Piedmont, is a "soft" grape variety in terms of tannins. Grown on the Manzone estate's privileged terroir, it produces a red wine of fruit and finesse. With its complex, fresh palate and notes of red fruit and undergrowth, it is a reflection of its terroir, a wine full of personality and spontaneity. An exceptional Dolcetto!
