The Cannonau (Grenache) di Sardegna appellation covers 260km, from Sulcis and Cagliari (south) to Gallura (north), and has existed since 1972. Production under this appellation accounts for around 20% of Sardinian wines. This appellation includes red, rosé, reserve, and liqueur wines. Reserve wines must have a minimum alcohol content of 13% and be aged for at least two years before being sold. Sweet liqueur wines have an alcohol content of between 17.5% and 20%. Wines from this appellation are rich in anthocyanins and polyphenols, which have attracted the attention of consumers in recent years as these compounds are rich in antioxidants and therefore beneficial to heart health.
The Vermentino di Sardegna appellation (also known as Vermentino di Gallura) covers the whole of Sardinia and includes complex, balanced white wines made from at least 95% Vermentino grapes. There are several types of wine under this appellation: Superiore, sparkling, Passito, and Vendange Tardive.
