"A delicious and accessible 100% Syrah vintage offering superb value for money."

"The Syrah XB is delightfully floral. Violet notes emerge behind a slight reduction that quickly fades in the glass. The palate is once again tender and sensual." (Le Guide RVF 2025).

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2026 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Since 1998, Xavier Braujou has built up an excellent reputation with his estate located north of Montpellier, near Aniane. Production is unfortunately limited, but it is one of those cherished addresses that is passed on by word of mouth. Here you can drink some truly great wines, such as the three reds tasted this year. Old vines, minimal yields, and meticulous work forge cuvées of grape varieties that rank among the very best produced in the Languedoc region.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 91/100

Rated estate (2026 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About wine:

The Syrah XB is delightfully floral. Violet notes emerge behind a slight reduction that quickly fades in the glass. The palate is once again tender and sensual.

About the estate:

The son of a winegrower, Xavier Braujou has been building up his estate since 1998, divided between Aniane and Saint-Jean-de-Fos. This solitary and determined artisan winemaker, a former lumberjack, produces wines of great character, the fruit of enormous effort on old, goblet-trained vines with very low yields, averaging around 20 hl/ha. His guiding principle can be summed up in two words: finesse and freshness. Far from the constraints of the appellation, he has always worked with a single grape variety and blends his different terroirs. Extraction is very gentle, aging is long, and the wines never see new wood. A confidential and essential address, prized by knowledgeable enthusiasts and the best sommeliers alike. The exceptional level observed over several vintages leads us to award him a second star without hesitation.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 08/19/2024

Quite unique in Languedoc, this is a 100% Syrah natural wine that is fluid and delicious. A burst of fresh, vibrant red and black fruits and sweet spices instantly releases an extremely juicy texture on the palate, with great freshness and a certain elegance on a well-balanced, supple, and velvety structure. Impressive length with a refreshing finish and lingering aromas. A highly expressive wine to share with friends, so easy to drink that one glass leads to another if you're not careful, especially when paired with beautifully grilled red meats. Rating = 4.
