"The Château d'Oupia banner once again flies proudly over the Minervois, and its Barons, the first cuvée created at the estate in 1985, are in the spotlight. A wine born of a balanced blend of carignan, grenache and syrah, it is excitingly youthful, with a rare aromatic complexity built on vanilla, spices and toast. Straightforward from the start, the palate gives the impression of biting into blueberry and fleshy cherry, backed by a polished, balanced structure. The tasting ends with a "royal finish of eight caudalies", as one taster put it, a remarkable length". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2016)

About the wine:
The Château d'Oupia banner once again flies proudly over the Minervois region, and its Barons, the first cuvée created at the estate in 1985, takes pride of place. A wine born of a balanced blend of carignan, grenache and syrah, it is excitingly youthful, with a rare aromatic complexity built on vanilla, spices and toast. Straightforward from the start, the palate gives the impression of biting into blueberry and fleshy cherry, backed by a "polished", well-balanced structure. The tasting ends with a "royal finish of eight caudalies", as one taster put it, a remarkable length.
About the domain :
All that remains of the medieval fortress of the Lords of Oupia are sections of wall, vestiges of the enclosure, and a tower. In 1860, Romain Iché bought the château, which passed to his grandson André in 1970. The latter undertook the renovation of the estate and cellar, making the property a benchmark in the Minervois appellation. André passed away in 2007, leaving his life's work to his daughter Marie-Pierre.

Scored (2016 guide) 14.5/20 (Good wine)
About the wine:
The 12 months of barrel ageing are still visible on the nose and palate, but this cuvée stands out for its substance, power and concentration. It's a rich, tight wine with tannins that are still in relief (those of the wood) but which can be further refined with ageing. Good, flattering character.

A wonderful experience. An enchanting Languedoc. It's a pity that this domain is not regularly offered on the site.

Nothing exceptional, strangely flat wine, I couldn't see what was wrong with it...

Excellent Minervois, powerful, tannic (syrah, grenache, carignan) but with a great aromatic sweetness: red fruits and spices of course, with very good length. I loved this cuvée in particular, which shows an excellent mastery of muid aging while respecting the character of the terroir. Well done!

Magnificent wine. Red fruit, but not too burnt. This Minervois is a real discovery, I recommend it!
