3*Coup de Coeur

Hachette

No "ballotage" for this "élyséenne" cuvée - it was served at Nicolas Sarkozy's garden party in 2008 - but a "coup de cœur" with "African allure", to paraphrase Francis Blanche in LesTontons Flingueurs: a 100% election for a royal picpoul. No fear of "risking the bizarre", "the brutal" or "the curious", and no "apple taste" here, but rather a true aromatic richness: classic citrus fruits (pomelo and lemon) are combined with delicate notes of almond and spring flowers. A touch of peach adds velvetiness on the palate, alongside the appellation's characteristic freshness, and reinforces the gourmet sensation of this beautiful, complex and harmonious ensemble". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2017) The perfect companion to shellfish and crustaceans!

About the wine:

There's no ballotage for this "élyséenne" cuvée - it was served at Nicolas Sarkozy's garden party in 2008 - but a coup de cœur "with African allure", to paraphrase Francis Blanche in Les Tontons Flingueurs: a 100% election for a royal picpoul. No fear of "risking the bizarre", "the brutal" or "the curious", and no "apple taste" here, but rather a real aromatic richness: classic citrus fruits (pomelo and lemon) are combined with delicate notes of almond and spring flowers. A touch of peach adds velvetiness to the palate, alongside the appellation's characteristic freshness, and reinforces the gourmet sensation of this beautiful, complex and harmonious ensemble.

About the domain :

A cooperative founded in 1922, L'Ormarine - then the Association des producteurs de vins blancs de Pinet - is a major player in the defense of the picpoul-de-pinet appellation. After merging with the caves of Villeveyrac (2009) and Cournonterral (2014), and then in 2017 with the caves of Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort and Vias, it now has 500 cooperative members and 2,500 ha, 520 of which are dedicated to the picpoul grape alone.

Lovely wine, slightly sparkling, good acidity reminiscent of the great Vino Verde wines.

Disappointed, too much acidity for my taste, I expected much better from the comments in the Hachette guide.
