Domaine Comps
Domaine Comps is a family estate in Puisserguier, with its roots in the late 19th century. Pierre Comps was 17 years old in 1937, and took over the family estate of nearly 6 ha. With his determination and know-how (and the help of his wife Juliette), he brought Domaine Comps to what it is today. Plots of Syrah planted as early as the 1970s enabled him to start producing higher quality wines.

The Domaine Comps AOC parcels are located in the most chalky area of the appellation. The filtering properties of this soil ensure that the vines flourish, their roots plunging into the earth and drawing from it the nutrients necessary for their development. In order to extract the quintessence of grape varieties such as Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, the estate practices yields of around 30 hectolitres per hectare.

Domaine Comps has opted for sustainable agriculture to produce high-quality grapes, while applying the most ecologically sound methods. Here, respect for traditional practices is more than a method, it's a philosophy. Hand-picking, meticulous vinification, gentle pressing in the old-fashioned way (using a hydraulic press), successive maturing in casks and bottling on the estate all bear witness to this.

"On the nose, blackcurrant is omnipresent, then aeration reveals more complex aromas of cooked fruit and leather. Blackcurrant is combined with a lemony note on a full, fresh palate, built on well-melted tannins. The tasting ends on a fine woody vanilla and smoky note". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2015) A very sunny Mediterranean character that will go perfectly with this Moussaka recipe.
