Patrick Baudouin Estate
Domaine Patrick Baudouin is a family estate located in Chaudefonds-sur-Layon. Patrick Baudouin is the fourth generation to manage a vineyard with 13.5 ha of vines in production. Domaine Patrick Baudouin began converting its vines to organic farming in 2002. Any new parcel rented or purchased is immediately put into conversion, if it is not organic. Since 1997, Patrick Baudouin has been working the soil, abandoning chemical weedkillers and, from 2001, banning synthetic treatments. Since 1994, no wine has been chaptalized, with only minimal doses of sulfur added to the initial grape juice.

Domaine Patrick Baudouin produces dry and semi-dry Anjou Blancs, made exclusively from Chenin grapes. But also Quarts de Chaume, Coteaux du Layon - sweet wines - in small quantities, obtained only by natural concentration on stumps, and Anjou reds and villages, made from cabernet franc and sauvignon. A perfectionist in his commitment, Patrick Baudouin continues to explore new avenues in his quest for quality viticulture, the expression of terroirs and the pleasure of fruit wines.

" Full-bodied Chenin, full-bodied, easy and elegant." (Le Guide des vins Bettane & Desseauve) This cuvée is named after the "Bellevue" plot planted in 2009, on schist soil. The wine has a beautiful aromatic expression, it's structured, dry and fresh, and demands to be paired with refined dishes: fish in beurre blanc, poultry in cream sauce, mushrooms. Chenin de Terroir!

(Notes vintage 2017)

Opening the domaine's range of terroir-driven chenins , Cuvée Effusion was conceived in 2001. A blend of hillside plots on effusive volcanic rock. A wine of aromatic freshness, as its name suggests. Very versatile, it will do wonders with aperitifs, cheese, fish and grilled white meats. A true Loire pleasure!

"On the reserve for the moment, this wine shows its mellowness and its potential, it must be waited for to gain in nuance and refinement". (Le Guide des Vins Bettane & Desseauve). An intense liquoreux, with a wide range of aromas, from fresh fruit (citrus, cherry, peach) to dried fruit and spices. Very ripe, harmonious and balanced!

A recent acquisition for the domaine, the Les Croix parcel is located on a schistose hillside. Here, Chenin Blanc is harvested at full maturity to produce a wine with intense aromas of exotic fruit. A dry white with a lovely fatness, this is a new expression of the grape variety in the domaine's range.

"A series of high-flying white Anjous: barely coated with light sugars, Le Cornillard presents a generous profile." (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2015 - RVF). An Anjou with an aromatic complexity of ripe fruit, with a stony, mineral character. Powerful and firm on the palate, with a lovely mineral framework, persistent and structured. Lots of charm!

"The graceful, callipyge Maria Juby that will remarkably hold up for more than fifteen years." (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2012 - RVF). A cuvée in homage to the master winemaker who founded the estate at the beginning of the 20th century. A very fine Quarts de Chaume!

Domaine Patrick Baudouin - Coteaux du Layon Les Bruandières 2013

Cuvée Les Bruandières is a fine Layon, less powerful than the Maria Juby and Grains Nobles cuvées, but still syrupy and botrytized. A lovely, suave, demonstrative white, to be enjoyed as an aperitif, with spicy or sweet and savory dishes...

Domaine Patrick Baudouin - Anjou Les Saulaies 2010

16/20 RVF

Note : RVF 16/20
"Enveloped by some fruity sugars, Les Saulaies continues with beautiful bitters." (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2014 - RVF). A dry white offering a nose of beautiful, rich, intense aromas, with race, finesse, elegance and length on the palate... Best served with white meat or fish, for example...

Domaine Patrick Baudouin - Les Coteaux 2013

Les Coteaux is a fine, luscious Layon, obtained solely from the natural concentration of chenin grapes on hillsides, but less marked by botrytis. A light, pure white, with more white fruit than candied fruit, it is well-balanced on the palate, with a harmony typical of the Loire region. Not to be missed!
