"Stunning! A magnificent, concentrated and powerful Chinon from Charles Joguet "

"Always reserved in its youth, Le Clos de la Dioterie seems destined for a radiant future. The ripeness of the Cabernet, the precision of the extraction and the way it is brought to light by ageing are in perfect harmony in this racy wine, carried by a tannic framework of mad elegance. It provokes gentle, persistent salivation. Radiant! Its fullness and finesse make it irresistibly accessible". (Le Guide RVF 2024).

Rated wine (guide 2025 ) 97/100

Domaine rated (guide 2025) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the domain :

For Anne-Charlotte Genet, the quest for perfectly harmonious, uncluttered tannins is the guarantee of wines capable of being good young and good old. The result is seductive wines, embodying charm, complexity, sensuality and great refinement. With a rare intelligence in her understanding of vines and wine, this is Chinon at its very best.

Robert Parker - Wine Advocate

Rated (guide 2024) 95/100 (Extraordinary wine)

About the wine:

Located close to the winery, this parcel represents the domaine's historic terroir. It is planted with old vines, 70 to 80 years old, and faces northeast. The soil is composed of a thick layer of clay overlying limestone bedrock, and the plot is usually the last to be harvested, allowing the grapes to reach optimum ripeness. Chinon Clos de la Dioterie 2020 presents, as usual, a lively, fresh and complex bouquet of wild black berries, cedar, cherries, spring flowers and spices. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, pure and precise, underpinned by powdery tannins and a fleshy, sappy mid-palate, finishing with a structured yet delicate, mineral finish. This is a magnificent wine and a favorite in the Charles Joguet range.

Wine rated (guide 2024) 96/100

Domaine rated (guide 2025) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the wine:

Always reserved in its youth, Le Clos de la Dioterie seems destined for a radiant future. The ripeness of the Cabernet, the precision of the extraction and the way it is brought to light by ageing are in perfect harmony in this racy wine, carried by a tannic framework of mad elegance. It provokes gentle, persistent salivation. Radiant! Its fullness and finesse already make it irresistibly accessible.

About the domain :

Founded in 1957 by Charles Joguet in Sazilly, on the left bank of the Vienne, this estate has returned to the top of the Chinon appellation, a consecration for the team in charge of vinification and the vines, chosen by owner Jacques Genet. They work to a high level of excellence, given the size of the estate. Above all, the winemakers have revived a vibrant spirit of freshness in the great Cabernets, which have the unique feature of being born facing north-east. Few estates in the Loire boast such unmissable grands cuvées: Clos de la Dioterie (2 hectares of octogenarian vines on clay-limestone soils, northeast exposure, in Sazilly), Clos du Chêne Vert (2 hectares in the town of Chinon, southwest, steep slope, clay-limestone and flint clay), Les Varennes du Grand Clos (4.5 hectares in Sazilly) aged eighteen months in barrel, then ten months in bottle before release. As for the entry-level cuvées, they manage to make cabernet franc consensual and fine, without losing the origin of the place. That's great quality! These modern Cabernet Francs, both fine and deep, manage to achieve the tour de force of retaining their digestible character, like the 2019, 2020 and now 2021, among the most ambitious in the Loire!

Rated wine (guide 2022) 93-95/100

About the wine:

Clos de la Dioterie is a northeast-facing vineyard on the left bank of the Vienne, on clay-limestone soil. It is one of the last parcels to be harvested. The 2020 barrel sample offers a delicious texture - exuding fine, chalky grain. Its style is almost creamy and rich, but as a Loire Cabernet Franc, it retains its elegance and shape. It's a ripe, black-fruited style, with abundant oak and great length. A scent of tea leaf, smoke and spices lingers long on the taut, concentrated finish, no doubt thanks to the limestone subsoil.

Wine rated (guide 2023) 92/100

About the wine:

Nose of red berries, wild herbs, roasted peppers, charred bark and baking spices. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins. Plenty of volume in the middle, with a velvety texture of berries and sweet spices. Good vitality and harmony with a textured finish. Made from organically grown grapes. For drinking or cellaring.
