Niepoort
In 1842, Dutch-born Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort moved to Portugal to set up the Niepoort company, a producer of Port wines. Halfway between age-old tradition and innovation, five generations of Niepoort have since brought their expertise and commitment to this Douro Valley estate.

Originally, Niepoort was an undisputed specialist in Port wines. It was only in 1991 that fifth-generation Dirk Niepoort created the first Redoma cuvée, after acquiring a first estate in the Douro Valley in 1987.

Today, Niepoort 's major challenge is to showcase the region's different terroirs and climates, notably by buying up new plots and creating new cuvées.

Dirk Niepoort pays particular attention to terroir, applying biodynamic principles.

"[...] Like its siblings in the top 2018 category, the fruit profile is not very expressive at the moment, and it will need a few years in the cellar to show itself at its best. Upside potential, however, seems most likely to be realized here in the batch. Time will eventually give us that answer, so come back to 2026. Here's another of Niepoort's 2018s that you'll only want to buy if you can cellar it, at least for a few years. This wine looks like a beauty in the making [...]" (Wine Advocate 2021)

"A safe bet

Docil is a balanced, full-bodied vinho verde: Loureiro's vines, planted on granite soils, produce a wine with a very pronounced aromatic profile, with a predominance of fresh floral aromas and crisp acidity. A fine entry into the world of wine!

This blend of autochthonous grape varieties is a red that heralds fine weather: fresh, airy but with a good concentration of fruit, enhanced by notes of spice and balsamic, it will be the perfect companion for your salads or barbecues.

Niepoort - Drink Me Nat cool 2017

This"cool and funky", easy-drinking cuvée is the very symbol of the winemaking world: it's the fruit of various producers who have joined forces, on Niepoort's initiative, to create this Nat Cool made from the Baga grape variety. It's an incredibly light, accessible wine that invites you to share!

"Charme 2017 is a parcel-based blend of Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca, aged for 15 months in single- or multi-wine French oak barrels. [...] More nuanced than the Batuta and probably a little deeper, it's just as fresh, with a slightly meaty aftertaste. There's not much volume, but there never is in this wine (generally intended to have a Burgundian style). It's a lovely Charme, though. It's structured, refined and bright, with fruit and a long finish. It should age beautifully." (Wine Advocate 2019 - Mark Squires)
