Domaine Georges Vernay
Visit Domaine Georges Vernay is located in the heart of the steep slopes of the northern Rhône Valley. The estate has become a major landmark in the history of Rhône Valley viticulture since the rescue of the Condrieu appellation by Georges Vernay to the international recognition of Côte-Rôtie. Today, his children Luc and Christine Vernay are in charge of vinification, and the estate covers 16 hectares. Whatever their classification, the wines are always tasty and of the highest quality.

93/100 RVF
This Côte-Rôtie style blond, with 5% Viognier, is a balanced blend of power and delicacy. Dark color, mineral, smoky nose, with black fruit, black olive, pepper, all enhanced by a floral component provided by the Viognier. This wine is both highly aromatic and extremely elegant. With well-crafted yet perfectly smooth tannins, this Côte-Rôtie, with its beautiful oval shape and long finish, is suave and sensual.
Domaine Georges Vernay - Condrieu Les Terrasses de l'Empire 2023
17/20 Jancis Robinson
"Aromatic notes of peach and apricot. Soft, ripe attack, followed by a clean, fresh, dry finish. Medium weight, so not too heavy. It's ready for tasting, but still a little on the reserve." (Jancis Robinson 2024)
Domaine Georges Vernay - Côte-Rôtie Maison Rouge 2021
97/100 James Suckling
-
94/100 RVF
"This Côte-Rôtie is immaculate, elegant and almost untouched. So much purity and precision. The nose reveals notes of wild berries, wild herbs, dried meat and warm spices. Medium-bodied, with silky tannins and lively acidity. On the palate, there's plenty of wild strawberries and violets. Made from 100% old vines planted before 1950, it delivers all its black cherry essence and purity of fruit with a floral perfume, bringing elegance and freshness. Mineral and well-mannered, with a concentrated, long and lively finish". (James Suckling 2024)
Domaine Georges Vernay - Saint-Joseph Terres d'Encre 2022
92/100 RVF
-
92/100 James Suckling
Elegantly dressed in a dark ruby, this Saint-Joseph lives up to its name and will leave a lasting impression with its crisp, spicy aromas. The Syrah is remarkable, and perfectly represents the typicality of this grape variety in the Northern Rhône Valley.
Domaine Georges Vernay - Condrieu Les Chaillées de l'Enfer 2022
5/5 (1 review)
96/100 RVF
-
94/100 James Suckling
"Fascinating nose of dried pears and summer meadows. Rich and full-bodied with great finesse and a silky texture. The finish is long, supple and crystalline. From vines over 60 years old on the middle terraces of the hillside. Vinified in large oak barrels". (James Suckling 2024). Its purity will sublimate an asparagus risotto.
Domaine Georges Vernay - Condrieu Coteau de Vernon 2021
96/100 Coup de Cœur RVF
-
95/100 James Suckling
"Coteau de Vernon displays superb subtlety and complexity of aroma, with a dazzling finish." (Le Guide RVF 2024). A wine of extreme elegance and perfect balance, it perfectly combines freshness with mentholated vegetal notes and exuberant fruit. Noble, taut, straightforward, precise and delicate, it is one of the finest expressions of Viognier's subtlety. The estate's flagship Condrieu.
