"Swirls of dark raspberry ice cream and dark chocolate combine in Vignon's 2019 Gigondas [...]. Aged in a large wooden vat, there are no overt oak aromas or flavors, just the purity of old-vine fruit, creamy tannins, great concentration and a bright, vibrant, long finish. With its combination of intensity and tension, it should drink well for a decade or more." (Wine Advocate 2020)

About the wine:
Swirls of black raspberry ice cream and dark chocolate combine in Vignon's Gigondas 2019, a blend of 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre from numerous small parcels scattered throughout the appellation. Aged in a large wooden vat, there are no overt oak aromas or flavors, just the purity of old-vine fruit, creamy tannins, great concentration and a bright, vibrant, long finish. With its combination of intensity and tension, it should drink well for a decade or more.

About the wine:
Attractive palate with fairly firm tannins, lovely sweetness and a round finish. There's a good level of freshness here that keeps it energetic and engaging. Needs a few years to settle in, but will please in years to come. Drink between 2023 - 2028.

About the wine:
Deep, brilliant ruby. Expressive aromas of ripe black fruit, cherry and candied licorice are complemented by smoky floral and mineral nuances. Flavors of black raspberry and bitter cherry are very clear, becoming sweeter as the wine opens. The finish is juicy, taut and long, with lingering notes of black fruit and spice. Harmonious tannins give it shape and good staying power.

About the wine:
The 2019 Gigondas offers a more reserved, medium-bodied, elegant style, with lovely notes of salty red and black fruits, peppery herbs, dried flowers and obvious minerality. Medium-bodied, elegant, full of finesse and long on the palate, this is a fine wine that could benefit from an extra year in bottle and drink well for a decade.

A well-balanced wine with a very straight, unadorned palate. A straightforward, elegant and charming wine.

I love gigondas, and I can't say that this one disappointed me, but its great pity is that it was tasted shortly after a 2015 gigondas whose origin I won't mention, so inevitably it was a little underwhelming. I'm going to let it mature in the cellar and I'll let you know about it in a few years' time.

Still on the reserve, this Gigondas is already imposing with its power, volume and aromatic complexity. It also offers extra concentration and depth on a 2019 vintage of excellent constitution. There's a lovely purity and abundance of stewed fruit mixed with spices. Very unctuous texture served by a pleasant freshness of orange peel and sublimated by ripe, juicy tannins, but a slightly short, slightly peppery finish. Its fine structure gives it a very long ageing potential, during which it should improve further.very good R. Q/P. Salers beef ribs braised with vine shoots, accompanied by Provençal-style tomatoes, would suit this wine perfectly. Score = 4.2.

Excellent nose, but lacks length on the finish. To be reviewed in 4-5 years.
