"Power and character
" Coup de coeur for this well-built red wine from the Southern Rhône: La cuvée Principauté d'Orange Terre de Bussière 2019 from Domain de la Janasse in IGP du Vaucluse. A well-constructed red that remains in the classic Provencal style, lightly spiced for an original blend: merlot and syrah that are vinified in concrete vats and aged partly in barrels." Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2024 guide) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the domain :
On the finest terroirs in Courthézon, the Domaine de la Janasse, the pride of the Sabon family, has established itself as one of the appellation's benchmarks for over 40 years. Christophe Sabon produces Côtes-du-Rhône wines of the highest level, with rare depth. The Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines are expressed through different cuvées: chaupin, from a cold terroir with a very Burgundian approach, or the cuvée vieilles-vignes, sunnier and racier. Finally, the whites, in the shadow of the reds, are just as recommendable. The entire range is beyond reproach, and the great vintages are among the appellation's benchmarks.

About the domain :
A regular in the Guide, often featured prominently for its Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône and IGP wines. Christophe Sabon and his sister Isabelle, children of Aimé Sabon, who founded the estate in 1973, manage a 90-hectare vineyard scattered over many parcels. The estate was completed in 2015 with the purchase of Clos Saint-Antonin and its 15 ha of vines in the Jonquières commune.

Domaine rated (2024 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the wine:
I love this well-crafted red wine from the Southern Rhône: Cuvée Principauté d'Orange Terre de Bussière 2019 from Domain de la Janasse in IGP du Vaucluse. A well-constructed red that remains in the classic Provencal style, lightly spiced with an original blend: Merlot and Syrah vinified in concrete vats and partly aged in barrels.
About the domain :
This great estate, which has belonged to the Sabon family for generations, is one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape's elite. Most of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vines are located in the commune of Courthézon, with the parcels and soils of the various cuvées being fragmented. The domaine also produces some splendid Côtes-du-Rhône cuvées (important in terms of volume), from vines adjacent to the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. With often very high maturities, the wines are opulent in style, sometimes a little too warm in sunny vintages. On the other hand, the tannins and textures are always of great finesse. In recent vintages, the wines have become less rich and slightly more digestible.

About the wine:
This powerful, dense, earthy red could be mistaken for a Châteauneuf-du-Pape thanks to the imposing tannic structure just below the surface richness. Serious power with a bold, spicy finish.

3.7 Jam on the nose, rich and opulent on the palate, with a slightly warm finish. Serve slightly chilled (16 degrees max.) to balance this out, but it remains a fine product of the vintage.

Very nice, complex nose, good substance for this original blend, but some bitterness on the finish, which I'm not sure will disappear later on. A pity.

Born of a singular blend, this 2019 cuvée, which is starting to open up, proves to be more intense and concentrated than that of 2018. Full-bodied, rich and silky on the palate, articulated around melted tannins, with flavors of jammy black fruits, characteristic of a ripe Merlot, as well as cocoa, roasted and animal notes. Long, very long, nicely spicy finish. Structured and well-balanced, Bussière delighted our guests' taste buds with fillets of Limousine onglet in Périgueux sauce. Stable prices to the credit of the SABON family. Score 3.9.

nothing like the 2018. The 2019 is almost too reduced, too concentrated, far less pleasant on the palate than the 2018. What a shame!
