Berta Maillol Estate
Located in a region emblematic of natural sweet wines with Banyuls-sur-Merthe Berta Maillol estate has been producing wine for over 400 years within the same family. Since 1611, many changes have taken place in the cellar and the wines. Today, Michel and Georges run the estate, continuing the work of their father Jean-Louis. Berta-Maillol.
They cultivate a 15-hectare vineyard on the Côte Vermeille slope, taming a rocky schist terroir where the vines are terraced due to the steep slope. The landscape of this atypical region oscillates between sea and mountains (Pyrenees), with steep vineyards overlooking the sea.

Domaine Berta Maillol produces a range of traditional red Banyuls as well as amber, rancio, rosé and a dry white wine in the Collioure appellation. In theBanyuls appellation, Grenache is the only grape variety used for red Banyuls. The Berta Maillol family also works with other grape varieties endemic to the region, such as Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris and Macabeu.

3*Coup de Coeur Hachette

Le rimage" is the translation of "vintage" and the term used by Banyulencs to designate the "wine of the year". Grenache noir, long maceration, ageing on lees, a few months in barrel, and there you have it, deep black, very open to red fruit, with the toasty note of ageing in wood and the softer, finely milky note of regular stirring on lees. The palate is greedy, unctuous and fleshy, with remarkably fine tannins; cherry and blackcurrant meet a savory spicy note. A marvel with dark chocolate or sweet and savory dishes".
