great wine

"Smoky, spicy oak defines the nose, but on the palate it's the full-bodied aspect, concentration and intensity of the Malbec that comes through with power and purity, adding layers of persistent black cherry, plum, licorice, vanilla and cinnamon. Full-bodied and velvety, it's almost approachable now, but should age for more than 10 years without too much difficulty." (Wine Advocate 2020)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domain rated 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

Alain-Dominique Perrin has worked hard to make the magnificent Lagrézette estate one of the beacons of the Cahors revival. The progress made since the cellar renovation is clear to see: the wines have gained in elegance, and the fruit is better highlighted by the ageing process. We particularly appreciate the Château and Clos Marguerite cuvees, remarkable this year.

Domain rated (guide 2022) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the domain :

A star estate in the Cadurcian vineyards, acquired in 1985 by businessman Alain-Dominique Perrin. It is renowned for the distinctive architecture of its 16th-century manor house, with its pepper-pot towers, sloping roofs and dovecote; for its vineyard heritage (82 ha), cultivated since the 16th century; and, above all, for its ambitious wines, regularly featured in these pages.

Rated (2020 guide) 94/100 (Outstanding wine)

About the wine:

A selection of parcels behind the château aged for 22 to 24 months in new French oak, Château Lagrezette's 2016 Cuvée Dame Honneur is a blend of 89% Malbec and 11% Merlot. Smoky, spicy oak defines the nose, but on the full-bodied palate, Malbec's concentration and intensity emerge with power and purity, adding layers of persistent black cherry, plum and licorice to vanilla and cinnamon. Full-bodied and velvety, it's almost approachable now, but should age for more than 10 years without too much difficulty.

About the wine:

The high alcohol content of this wine is strikingly absent on the palate. It's certainly full-bodied, but the black fruit, acidity and solid tannins are balanced, giving a wine with firm, youthful tannins and great ageing potential. Drink from 2022.

About the wine:

A fantastic Cahors red with aromas and flavors of spices, dried meat, dry earth and dark berries. Full-bodied, with firm tannins and a wonderful, savory finish. One of the best Cahors I've ever had. Drink it or keep it.
