"The spectacular hillside vineyard of Montus, overlooking the Adour valley, produces some of the finest Madiran. This 80% Tannat wine reveals the quality and intensity of the grapes. It's still full of tannins, but the fruit really shines through. Give this wine time and drink it from 2023 onwards." (Wine Enthusiast 2020). Dubbed the Petrus of the Southwest by a host of critics around the world, Château Montus' Madiran ticks all the boxes of a great terroir wine!

Wine rated 93/ 100

Domain rated (guide 2023) Selected (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the domains that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the wine:

Great wine for laying down.

About the domain :

Alain Brumont develops his personality through a style that takes wines from Madiran around the world under the label of Château Montus, which he bought in 1980. Brumont's cuvées often go against conventional wisdom, demonstrating his freedom in interpreting the terroirs' yellow and red clay subsoils, with gradients ranging from 20 to 40%. Tannat expresses itself in the château's three cuvées, Prestige, XL, Montus and La Tyre, and certainly delivers the most spectacular profile of this not-easy-to-handle Pyrenean grape.

Very good and consistent quality, but far too young as it is. To be tested from grade 8, 10 upwards.

Tasted on 27/02/22: a sure bet from the south-west, with good ageing potential, which has remained very affordable unlike the Bordeaux crus: never disappointed!
