Van Volxem
Located in the historic center of Wiltingen/Sarre, the Domaine Van Volxem was built on the ruins of a Roman villa, the remains of which can still be found in the park. The vineyards, some of which were planted by the Romans as early as the 3rd century on the best schist slopes of the Saar, are among the oldest vines on steep slopes. Rediscovered and rehabilitated by monks in the 11th century, the estate was cultivated from the 16th century onwards by the Jesuit Order and transformed into a wine-growing monastery in 1743.

The rise of Moselle and Saar wines, particularly in the luxury range, triggered the Golden Age of Van Volxem, whose "nectars" now appeared on many wine lists around the world. Four generations of the Van Volxem family succeeded one another before the estate was sold to Roman Niewodniczanski in 2000. Since then, the house has been renovated in compliance with "Monuments et Sites" regulations, and the Van Volxem vineyard has been extended with the acquisition of numerous plots. Manager of the estate since 2004, Dominik Völk is striving to revive the estate's rich past and establish an international reputation for Van Volxem's white wines.

The first nose almost gives the impression of biting into the slate so characteristic of this Riesling's terroir, followed by mineral, smoky and white pepper notes. The palate is marked by fine aromas of blueberry, juniper and sloe. Its intense minerality is reminiscent of iodine. This noble wine will make an excellent meal companion!

"A successful vintage

"It may only be medium-bodied, but it has a lovely combination of creaminess and crispness, herbaceous and mineral intensity and a long, driving finish. Clearly the best vintage of this wine yet! Drink it or keep it." (James Suckling 2019)

"Bright limes, green apples and poached pears. Hints of white pepper and green paprika. Taut and edgy, but with good density and definition for this price. Fruity on the finish. Drink now." (James Suckling 2019)

"Authentic, mineral, racy and radiating precision!"

"There's a lovely herbaceous edge to this Spätlese, suggesting green paprika, white pepper and garlic. At the same time, the citrus notes are powerful and pure. The medium sweetness has an oily, soapy appeal, while the acidity is taut, elegant and structured. Long, subtle finish. Drink now." (James Suckling 2019)
