"A clean, fresh Chardonnay (James Suckling)".

"Winemaker Gilles Gelin likes to produce precision wines, of which this is one. On the nose, a fragrant blend of lemon peel and lime opens with notes of orange blossom, white peach and golden apple. Delicate acidity leads to a round palate of orchard fruits, with moments of salinity and wet stone on the finish. This is a versatile wine that pairs perfectly with Caesar salad, anchovy fillets and patatas bravas." (Wine Enthusiast 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated domain (2020 guide) 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)

About the domain :

Gilles Gelin is one of the young generation of Beaujolais winemakers who are producing a large volume of wines of impeccable quality. With the 2016 vintage, we identified an inflection in the style of the wines, more delicate, with a more accomplished aromatic precision. This style is confirmed in 2017. The wines are half-bodied, with just the right balance. Reliable and enjoyable. What more could you ask for?

Guide Hachette des vins

Guide Hachette des vins

Vin noté (guide 2025) 1*Étoile (Vin très réussi)

About the wine :

The estate's Chardonnays are planted on nearly 3 hectares of clay-limestone terroir. Gilles Gelin has created an alert, fresh cuvée, with a certain fullness and a hint of acidity, underpinned by a mineral framework. Floral and citrus notes complete the picture.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Noted domain 3*Stars (High-quality production)

About the domain :

Son and grandson of a winegrower, Gérard Gelin acquired Clos des Nugues in 1976, before going into partnership with his son Gilles. Located in northern Beaujolais, on the border of the Moulin-à-Vent, Fleurie and Morgon crus, the estate now covers almost 30 hectares. The average age of the vines is around 45 years, with some Gamay vines over a century old.

Vin noté (guide 2024) 89/100 (Très bon vin)

Noted domain Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine :

In Lancié, we find a selection of limestone soils that are well suited to Chardonnay. Aged for six months on lees in vats, Beaujolais-Lancié Blanc 2022 presents aromas of white peach, nectarine and gardenia, with hints of flinty, reductive flavors. Medium- to full-bodied, with a core of sappy citrus and stone fruit, the initially voluminous wine is sharpened by its chalky texture, giving it concentration and length.

Rated domain (2020 guide) Selected (We remind you that this guide is a prize list, and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the domain :

At the crossroads of the crus, the Gelin family produces mainly Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages. A few parcels in Morgon (1 hectare) and Fleurie (6 hectares) complete a range that goes from VDF to home-made crème de cassis. The wines resemble their maker, Gilles Gelin: rich in color with fruity tannin, they deliver over time. His white is a metronome chardonnay in Beaujolais-Villages, which he continues to plant on suitable soils. His gamay version demonstrates the excellence of the Lancié terroir when worked with adjusted yields.

Vinous A. Galloni

Vin noté (guide 2024) 89/100

About the wine :

Beaujolais-Lancié Blanc 2022 is made from several parcels of generally younger vines. It has a lovely, well-defined bouquet with hints of white peach and citrus peel. Well-balanced on the palate with fine acidity, the terroir expresses itself much more than its peers, offering greater complexity and tension on the finish. This wine deserves to be sought out.
