charmer

"The estate's main cuvée is a very well-balanced wine between well-melted oak and sovereign fruitiness, between a fleshy, unctuous body and dense, round tannins that promise a fine evolution in the cellar." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2018) Charming in every way!

Expert opinion

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated (2018 guide) 15.5/20 (Very good wine)

Domain rated 1*Star (A serious, commendable production, in keeping with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))

About the wine:

The nose is exuberant yet racy, powerfully fruity, with hints of licorice, violets and peony. The palate is very much in the same style, generous but not excessive, with tight, ripe tannins, very persistent aromas and, above all, lots of freshness.

About the domain :

Located in La Sauve-Majeure, in the heart of the Entre-Deux-Mers region, this estate has long been a classic for good Bordeaux at affordable prices, in all three colors. The Courselle family, who oversee the château and its vinifications with talent and expertise, have created the archetypal good address. Sylvie and Marie Courselle, Francis' daughters, have inherited the family passion. Both engineers and oenologists, they have now taken over Thieuley's destiny. Red, white and clairet wines are always well-crafted, tasty, gourmet and well-balanced. Don't miss the particularly elegant cuvée francis-courselle.

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine rated (2018 guide) 2**Stars (Outstanding wine)

Domain rated (guide 2021) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the wine:

The estate's main cuvée is a well-balanced wine, with well-melted oak and sovereign fruitiness, fleshy, unctuous body and dense, round tannins that promise to evolve beautifully in the cellar.

About the domain :

The Courselle winegrowing history began in 1949 with the purchase of Ch. Thieuley, not far from La Sauve-Majeure, by André Courselle. Under the impetus of Francis and, since 2004, his daughters Sylvie and Marie, the vineyard now covers 80 hectares and three crus: Thieuley, a benchmark in Bordeaux, Ch. Saint-Genès, destined for export, and Clos Sainte-Anne, 5 hectares of gravel in Capian.

I find it good value for money but, for me, it lacks a little charm.

2015 drunk in January 2019: well done! You can feel the ageing but the wine is fresh with beautiful notes of cocoa truffles ... To keep.
