Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2018 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)
Domaine rated (2020 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the wine:
Superb, exuberant nose, offering great ripe fruit, notes of violets, sweet flowers and soft spices, opulent palate, with a beautiful attack, tasty tannins, fruit, length and vivacity. Potential and charm. Real value for money.
About the domain :
Marie-Hélène Léonard and Gilles Marsaudon, a former decorator, settled in the Bourquais region in 2002. For several vintages, these new winemakers sought their style in extraction, but now the path seems set for a vinification based on fruit and refinement. All their efforts and money are devoted to improving the vines and technical installations. The investments are heavy, but the results are there. The cuvées la-part-des-fées and villa-jeanne, both entry-level but still barrel-aged, are at the top of the range in terms of charm, refinement and balance. A property to follow closely.
Guide Hachette des vins
Domaine noté (guide 2020) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
This côtes-de-bourg estate takes its name from Sulpicius de Monteberiot, a 14th-century monk who founded the village of Mombrier. It was named by Gilles and Marie-Hélène Marsaudon, a former event decorator and wine merchant, who acquired the 7.3-hectare vineyard in 2003.
