Château de Carles

Château de Carles, in the commune of Saillans, was built in the 15th century by the famous "de Carle" family, whose members were important figures in Bordeaux between the 15th and 17th centuries. Visit Château de Carles and its vineyards have been owned by the same family for over 100 years. The current generation, represented by Constance and Stéphane Droulerswho have been at the helm since 1983, are attached to the estate by their passion for wine and their property. Their ambition is to devote all necessary means to ensure that the estate of Château de Carles and its wines regain and perpetuate the glory and renown they enjoyed in the 19th century when Fronsac wines, Château de Carles were more highly regarded than those of Saint-Emilion and Pomerol. The completely renovated winery is now one of the finest in Bordeaux, and the cuvée Haut-Carles was created in 1994.

Resting on clay-limestone soil, the 20-hectare vineyard of Château de Carles are 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and the rest Malbec. Half of the vineyard surface is dedicated to wine. Château de Carleswine, the other half being used to make the Haut-Carles.
