Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 15/20 (Very good wine)
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the wine:
Tender, flowery, fruity nose, mouth in the same style, harmonious, pleasant to drink and very refreshing. Well-made, with a rare elegance and great balance.
About the domain :
A famous estate, very much in vogue in the 19th century, this sleeping beauty woke up in fine form four years ago, thanks to a buyout by the Mounier cognac house. Laurent Méry is in charge. Situated between Margaux and Saint-Julien, on gravelly terroirs, the vineyard comprises almost 70 hectares of vines planted equally between Cabernet and Merlot. Major renovations have been undertaken to restore the château to its former glory. Modern and avant-garde, advised by Hubert de Boüard (Château Angélus), the wine still retains its finesse and elegance.
Guide Hachette des vins
Domaine noté (guide 2021) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
A cru bourgeois that has been producing wine since the Middle Ages. It owes its name to the agronomist Jacques de Bergeron, who perfected a grafting method in the early 19th century. Backed by a 19th-century building, the vineyard covers almost 80 hectares, owned by cognac houses H. Mounier and Hardy.

Rated (2017 guide) 89-91/100 (Wonderful wine)
Domaine noté Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)
About the wine:
Château Lamothe-Bergeron 2016 displays impressive freshness and vitality on the nose: effervescent black fruits mixed with tobacco and graphite. The palate is well-balanced with lively acidity, harmonious on the palate with good depth, lots of new wood on the finish but this should be subsumed by the time it's bottled. There's potential here.
About the domain :
Wine Enthusiast
Rated wine (2019 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
The estate's rather grandiose château dates back to the 19th century, with its turrets in keeping with Médoc tradition. The wine is equally classic, offering balanced acidity, blackcurrant and a layer of tannins to support it all. The 30% new barrels added to the wine's richness and gave it a spicy aftertaste. Drink from 2022.

Le Figaro vins
Rated wine (2017 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
Mentholated nose, Zan, floral, red fruits. Digestible palate, slight bitterness, supple tannins, graphite.
Yves Beck
Rated wine (2018 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
Medium garnet red. The bouquet of Lamothe-Bergeron 2016 is complex and multi-faceted. It reveals smoky, fruity and mineral notes. Pleasant aromas of licorice wood and blackberries. Dense and balanced on the palate. The tannins are fine-grained and perfectly integrated, while the structure lends breed. A complete wine with body, muscle and finesse. I think it can still gain a point or two. To be continued. 2022-2036
