"The 2018 BriO de Cantenac Brown is dark, fleshy and enveloping. Black cherry, chocolate, spice, leather, espresso and tobacco rush out of the glass in a sumptuous, exotically ripe second wine from Cantenac Brown. Juicy and supple, the 2018 BriO will drink beautifully right from the start." Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2022 guide) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the domain :
This cru has been bought by Simon Halabi, a lover of the Médoc's great wines, who is giving a motivated team, led by the very likeable and talented José Sanfins, the means to improve quality. The latest vintages have all been successful: wines that are rather full-bodied for margaux, but harmonious in their power. The second wine, brio, lacks a little panache, despite its name, but the estate produces a lovely Bordeaux appellation dry white, called alto.
Guide Hachette des vins
Domain rated (guide 2022) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
Sponsored by an imposing neo-Tudor château built in the 19th c. by Scottish animal painter John Lewis Brown, this 48-hectare estate, planted on fine gravel in the heart of the appellation, has been given a new lease of life, first by the Axa group and, since 2006, by the Halabi family, who have entrusted its management to José Sanfins.

Domaine rated (2023 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the domain :
This handsome, imposing Margalais estate consistently produces top-quality wines worthy of its ranking. Its dynamic manager, José Sanfins, trained at the Cazes school and Axa Millésime, knows how to produce wines that are charming, but also deep and full-bodied (like the Alto white, produced in small quantities). A new owner, the Le Lous family, has even higher ambitions. A further 10 hectares were acquired in 2020, and major modernization work is planned for the production facilities. The cru is not resting on its laurels!

James Suckling
Wine rated (2019 guide) 92-93/100
About the wine:
The wine is very rich and nervous, with a lovely luminosity and an underlying freshness of black and blue fruits. Warm and spicy, with medium to full body. A lovely second wine.
Vert de Vin
Rated wine (2019 guide) 94/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is elegant, fine and fruity, offering freshness and a little complexity. There are notes of fresh/crisp blackcurrant, ripe blackberry and, to a lesser extent, wild strawberry, combined with hints of gray pepper, flowers and toasty notes. The palate is fruity, well-balanced and offers lovely definition, fine grain, greediness, minerality, fine juiciness, freshness, finesse, roundness and a lovely, silky, delicate touch. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy blackberry and juicy/fresh raspberry, combined with hints of flowers (violet, cornflower), fine hints of juicy red berries, discreet hints of toastiness, chocolate, caramelization (in the background) and a subtle hint of sweet spices (in the background). Elegant tannins. A fine hint of saltiness on the finish. Good length. A subtle hint of coffee on the finish.
